Mr. Fiffick advised that the Selection Committee has had several conference calls with regard to the State Medical Director position and has narrowed it down to three candidates. Interviews will be conducted on June 7th.

Mr. Burgess noted that the committee would like the Board to authorize the EMS Executive Director to sign the grant agreements. In the past the authorization specified
the Executive Director by name; however, the committee would like to keep the wording of the authorization generic in nature.

National
Registry Testing of Individuals Under the Age of 18
Mr. Rucker advised that the ad hoc committee met to discuss
the issues involving the National Registry’s procedure for testing individuals under
the age of 18. After further discussion
the committee recommends that the Board go with the option of taking the
knowledge test and not the NR test, which means the individual would be
certified by the State of

Following Dr. Cotton’s recommendation, Mr. Rucker sent a letter to Representative Sherrod Brown expressing the Board’s support for continuation of EMSC funding regarding HR Bill 3999.

Federal
Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services
Mr. Rucker noted that he sent a letter to Senator George Voinovich at the encouragement of the National EMS Directors Association. The letter asked the senator to support S.2351, which would establish a Federal Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services.

Weapon
Safety Training CE
Heather Reed researched this and advised the Board they cannot, through a board order, set limitations on the number of hours they will accept or the quality of the training. These conditions must be set forth in rules. Nevertheless, several points in Dr. Rogers’ white paper are worth noting and, with minor modifications, could be posted on the website as a position paper. Ms. Reed emphasized that any information given in a position paper cannot be construed as legal advice; the information should only be viewed as a suggestion by the Division.
Ms. Reed pointed out that several modifications to the position paper should be:
v The paper should focus on gun safety issues in general and not whether the individual is a proper permit holder.
