EMS Director Richard N. Rucker is responsible for overseeing the daily administration and management of the EMS Division and coordinating with the State EMS Board in all EMS activities. The Division is responsible for the certification of EMTs, firefighters and fire safety inspectors, accreditation and approval of EMS training sites for certification and continuing education programs, and statewide EMS disaster response planning. Rucker has served as the chief of operations for the Division since 2001. Prior to his current position, he served as deputy inspector general with the Ohio Inspector General's Office from 1998-2001. In 1998, Rucker retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the rank of major, completing 26 years of service. A graduate of the 95th Patrol Academy class, he served at Marion, Akron, West Jefferson, Cleveland Operations, Wilmington District Headquarters, and the Patrol's General Headquarters in Operations, Investigative Services, and Licensing and Commercial Standards. During his Patrol career, Rucker was named Post Trooper of the Year in 1975 and 1977, District Trooper of the Year in 1975, and received Certificates of Recognition from 1974-1977. In 1986, he received the Governor's Certificate of Special Recognition for serving on the Patrol's first labor contract negotiating team. He earned the Health and Fitness award in 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1997. Mr. Rucker has attended Cuyahoga Community College, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Louisville. |
