The Division of EMS is accredited for the Firefighter I and Firefighter II training programs by Pro Board®, an internationally recognized means of acknowledging professional achievement in the fire service and related fields. Pro Board® accreditation means the Firefighter I and Firefighter II programs provided by Ohio’s chartered fire training programs meet Pro Board® accreditation criteria and the National Fire Protection Association’s professional qualifications standards. This accreditation permits Ohio firefighters certified at the Firefighter I or Firefighter II level to voluntarily acquire Pro Board® certification. A Pro Board® recognized certification from an accredited entity is a statement of success, an indisputable mark of performance belonging to individual fire service professionals.
Each successful candidate for certification from an accredited entity knows that he or she has been measured against peers and meets rigorous national standards. In addition, certification improves uniformity of training and state-to-state portability of qualifications. Finally, the credibility of an organization is enhanced by having members certified to national consensus standards.
If you are currently certified or will be seeking a Firefighter I or Firefighter II certification in Ohio, and are interested in Pro Board® certification, please contact the Division of EMS at EMSFireEducation@dps.ohio.gov.
